The earthquake was recorded at 1:49 p.m. Hawaii time, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The U.S. Geological Survey said it had a registered depth of about 40 miles.
Based on all available data, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not generated, according to the center.
